Mountain-valley wind systems

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010630

Localized wind circulations that form within mountainous terrain due to the differential heating and cooling of valley floors and mountain slopes. During the day, anabatic winds flow up the slopes and valleys, while at night, katabatic winds flow down. These winds are a type of thermally driven local circulation.
