Along-valley wind systems

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003450

Local wind patterns that develop within valleys, primarily driven by pressure gradients created by differential heating or cooling between the valley atmosphere and the air over the surrounding plains. During the day, anabatic winds flow up-valley, while at night, katabatic winds flow down-valley. These systems are often more pronounced in deep, narrow valleys.
