Along-slope wind systems

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003449

Local wind patterns that develop due to differential heating or cooling of mountain slopes compared to the adjacent free atmosphere. These systems include anabatic winds, which flow upslope during the day, and katabatic winds, which flow downslope at night. The strength and direction of these winds are influenced by the slope angle, surface characteristics, and the larger-scale atmospheric flow.
