Slope winds
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008943
Local winds that develop along hillsides and mountain slopes due to differential heating and cooling of the terrain. Anabatic winds blow upslope during the day as the slope warms, while katabatic winds blow downslope at night as the slope cools. These winds are a type of thermally driven circulation and are often strongest in clear, calm conditions.
