Slope Water

A water mass in the Northwest Atlantic Ocean located between the continental shelf and the Gulf Stream, extending from Cape Hatteras to the Grand Banks. This body of water is formed from the mixing of warm, salty Gulf Stream water with colder, fresher water from the Labrador Current and coastal runoff. Its temperature and salinity characteristics are highly variable, falling between those of its parent water masses.
