Along-valley winds

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003451

Air currents that flow parallel to the orientation of a valley, driven by thermal differences between the valley atmosphere and the surrounding terrain. During the day, anabatic winds blow up-valley as the valley floor heats faster, while at night, katabatic winds flow down-valley as the valley cools more rapidly. These winds are a type of mesoscale circulation.
