Cross-valley wind

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004777

A wind flow that blows perpendicular to the main axis of a valley, often driven by larger-scale synoptic pressure gradients or by local thermal circulations. These winds can interact with terrain to produce complex flow patterns, including turbulence and localized convergence or divergence. They are distinct from along-valley winds, which flow parallel to the valley axis.
