Thermoperiodicity
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009617
The response of an organism, particularly a plant, to recurring, rhythmic changes in temperature, such as the daily cycle of high daytime and low nighttime temperatures. This phenomenon influences growth, flowering, and dormancy, with many species having optimal development under specific diurnal temperature fluctuations. The difference between day and night temperatures, known as the diurnal temperature range (DTR), is a key factor in thermoperiodic responses, affecting processes like stem elongation and fruit development.
