Thermo-osmosis

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009616

The movement of a fluid, such as water or water vapor, through a porous medium or membrane driven by a temperature gradient. The flow generally proceeds from a colder region to a warmer region, a phenomenon distinct from diffusion driven by concentration gradients. This process can influence moisture transport in soils and other porous materials within the Earth's climate system.
