Sintering
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008903
A process in which individual ice crystals or snow grains bond together to form a more cohesive mass, typically occurring in snowpacks. This process is driven by temperature gradients and vapor pressure differences, leading to the growth of bonds between grains. Sintering increases the strength and density of snow, affecting its mechanical properties and avalanche potential.
