Photoperiodism
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007925
The physiological and behavioral response of an organism to the relative lengths of day and night. It is a key driver of seasonal cycles in plants and animals, influencing processes like flowering, dormancy, and migration. While primarily a biological concept, it is directly linked to meteorology and climatology, as the photoperiod at any given latitude is determined by Earth's axial tilt and orbit, which also govern seasonal weather patterns and solar radiation input.
