Bio-assay

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003914

A procedure for determining the concentration or potency of a substance by measuring its effect on a living organism or biological tissue. The response of the test organism is compared to a standard preparation to quantify the amount of the active agent. For example, the growth inhibition of specific lichen or plant species can be used as a bio-assay for atmospheric sulfur dioxide pollution.
