Hydrophytic plant

A plant species that has evolved adaptations to thrive in aquatic environments or in soils that are permanently saturated with water. These adaptations include specialized root systems, buoyant leaves, and aerenchyma tissue for gas exchange. Such plants are characteristic of wetlands, marshes, and other waterlogged habitats, playing a role in local hydrology and biogeochemical cycles.
