Diurnal cooling
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005078
The process of temperature decrease that occurs over a 24-hour period, primarily during the night, as the Earth's surface radiates heat away into space. This cooling is most pronounced under clear skies and light winds, which allow for efficient longwave radiation loss from the ground. It often leads to the formation of dew, fog, or radiation inversions near the surface.
