Radiative equilibrium
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008307
A state in which the rate of absorption of radiant energy by a system is equal to its rate of emission of radiant energy. In the context of the Earth's atmosphere, this implies a balance between incoming solar radiation and outgoing terrestrial radiation. A perfect radiative equilibrium would result in a constant global average temperature.
