Isozyme
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006270
Different forms of an enzyme that catalyze the same reaction but differ in their amino acid sequence, and often in their kinetic properties, regulatory mechanisms, or tissue distribution. These variations arise from different genes or differential splicing of a single gene. Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) is a well-known example with multiple isozymes.
