Alternative splicing

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000459

A molecular process where different messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) molecules are produced from a single gene. This occurs by selectively including or excluding certain exons during the splicing of the primary RNA transcript. The resulting mRNA variants can then be translated into different protein isoforms, expanding the proteome diversity from a limited number of genes.
