Dehydrogenase
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002960
An enzyme that catalyzes the removal of hydrogen atoms from a substrate, an oxidation reaction. This type of oxidoreductase transfers the hydrogen to an acceptor molecule, such as nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) or a flavin coenzyme, which becomes reduced. Dehydrogenases are classified under EC 1 in the Enzyme Commission numbering system, which covers all oxidoreductases.
