Flavins
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004479
A class of organic compounds based on the tricyclic heterocycle isoalloxazine, a fused pteridine and benzene ring system. These molecules function as redox-active cofactors in a wide variety of enzymes known as flavoproteins. The two most common flavin derivatives in biological systems are flavin mononucleotide (FMN) and flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD).
