Flavoproteins
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004483
Proteins that contain a prosthetic group derived from riboflavin, either flavin mononucleotide (FMN) or flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD). These cofactors allow the protein to catalyze oxidation-reduction reactions by acting as electron carriers. Flavoproteins participate in numerous metabolic pathways, including the electron transport chain, beta-oxidation of fatty acids, and DNA repair.
