Coenzyme

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002173

A small, non-protein organic molecule that binds to an enzyme and is required for the enzyme's catalytic activity. Coenzymes often function as carriers of electrons or specific chemical groups during metabolic reactions. Many coenzymes are derived from vitamins, such as NAD+ from niacin or FAD from riboflavin.
