Apoenzyme
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000739
The protein component of an enzyme that is catalytically inactive without its associated non-protein cofactor or coenzyme. When the apoenzyme binds with its specific cofactor, it forms a complete and active enzyme complex known as a holoenzyme. This protein portion provides the structural framework for the active site.
