Apoprotein
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000740
A protein that is normally associated with a non-protein component, known as a prosthetic group, but is currently lacking that group. The apoprotein is typically inactive or less active in its function until it binds its specific prosthetic group to form a complete, functional holoprotein. For example, apohemoglobin lacks the heme prosthetic group.
