Apo-
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000736
A prefix with two main chemical uses. In biochemistry it marks the protein part of a conjugated protein or enzyme from which the cofactor or prosthetic group is absent, as in apoenzyme and apoprotein. In organic nomenclature it follows a locant to show that everything in the molecule past that carbon atom has been replaced by hydrogen atoms, as in the apocarotenoids.
