Apodization
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000737
The mathematical modification of a free induction decay (FID) or interferogram by multiplying it with a weighting function before Fourier transformation. This process is applied to alter the shape of the spectral lines in the resulting spectrum, for instance, by reducing ringing artifacts (sinc wiggles) at the base of sharp peaks. Common apodization functions include the exponential, Gaussian, and trapezoidal functions, each producing a different effect on the final line shape and signal-to-noise ratio.
