Apodization function

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000738

A mathematical weighting function applied to an interferogram in Fourier transform spectroscopy to minimize artifacts caused by the finite length of the measured data. These functions, such as triangular, Hamming, or Blackman, smoothly reduce the amplitude of the interferogram towards its ends. The choice of function influences the trade-off between spectral resolution and the suppression of sidelobes in the transformed spectrum.
