Fourier transform spectrometer
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004617
A spectrometer built around a scanning interferometer, usually of the Michelson type, with no dispersive element such as a prism or grating. It splits the beam, recombines the parts with a variable path difference and records the resulting interferogram, which a Fourier transform converts into a spectrum. All wavelengths are measured at once, so the design gives a high signal-to-noise ratio and dominates infrared work as the FTIR spectrometer.
