Free induction decay

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004653

The transient nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) signal observed after a radiofrequency pulse excites the nuclear spins in a sample. This signal decays over time due to relaxation processes and dephasing of the spins. The Fourier transform of the free induction decay yields the NMR spectrum, providing information about molecular structure.
