Net dephasing time

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007841

The measured time constant for the decay of transverse magnetization in the xy plane, written T2-star, which combines true spin-spin relaxation with dephasing caused by inhomogeneity of the static magnetic field. It is always shorter than or equal to the spin-spin relaxation time T2, and for a Lorentzian NMR line the width at half height in hertz equals 1/(π times T2-star).
