Relaxation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010171
The process by which a system returns to its equilibrium state after being perturbed. This involves the dissipation of excess energy or the redistribution of populations among energy levels. Relaxation phenomena are often characterized by specific time constants, such as spin-lattice relaxation time (T1) or spin-spin relaxation time (T2) in nuclear magnetic resonance.
