Spin-lattice relaxation

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011214

The process by which a system of nuclear spins in a magnetic field returns to thermal equilibrium with its surrounding molecular framework, or lattice. This phenomenon involves the transfer of energy from the excited spins to the lattice through thermal motions. The rate of this energy transfer is quantified by the spin-lattice relaxation time, T1, which is a key parameter in nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy.
