Peroxisome
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008679
A small, membrane-bound organelle found in the cytoplasm of eukaryotic cells, containing enzymes involved in metabolic reactions. These enzymes, such as catalase and oxidase, participate in the breakdown of fatty acids and amino acids, producing hydrogen peroxide as a byproduct. Peroxisomes are involved in lipid metabolism and detoxification processes.
