Vacuole
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012485
A membrane-bound organelle found in the cytoplasm of eukaryotic cells, appearing as a fluid-filled sac. In plant cells, a large central vacuole maintains turgor pressure and stores water, nutrients, and waste products. In animal cells, vacuoles are generally smaller and more numerous, involved in storage, transport, and waste removal.
