Dehydrobenzenes
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002959
Reactive intermediates of formula C6H4 derived from benzene by formally removing two hydrogen atoms, named as didehydrobenzenes with locants. The 1,2-isomer is benzyne, with a formal triple bond, while 1,3- and 1,4-didehydrobenzene are separate species with no such bond, the latter being the intermediate of the Bergman cyclization. All are generated in situ and are too reactive to isolate under ordinary conditions.
