Dehydroarenes
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002958
Reactive, usually short-lived species made formally by taking one hydrogen from each of two carbon atoms in an arene ring, and named with the prefix didehydro, as in 1,8-didehydronaphthalene. The 1,2-didehydroarenes, such as benzyne, are the arynes and carry a formal triple bond, but the two carbons need not be adjacent. They are normally generated in situ and trapped in cycloadditions or by nucleophiles.
