Epoxy compounds
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004048
Cyclic ethers in which an oxygen atom links two carbon atoms of a chain or ring system, adjacent or not. The best known subclass, the epoxides or oxiranes, has a strained three-membered ring of one oxygen and two carbons. Epoxides react with nucleophiles by ring opening at one carbon and are made by epoxidation of alkenes with peroxy acids such as m-CPBA.
