Epoxide hydrolase

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004047

An enzyme that catalyzes the hydrolysis of epoxides, converting them into corresponding trans-dihydrodiols. These enzymes are involved in the detoxification of xenobiotics and the metabolism of endogenous compounds, often converting reactive electrophilic epoxides into less reactive and more water-soluble products. Mammalian epoxide hydrolases are classified into microsomal and soluble forms.
