Epizootic

An outbreak of disease in an animal population that spreads rapidly and affects a large number of individuals within a short period. This phenomenon is analogous to an epidemic in human populations, indicating a higher-than-expected incidence of a particular disease. Examples include outbreaks of avian influenza or foot-and-mouth disease in livestock.
