Arene epoxides
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000776
A class of epoxy compounds in which an epoxide ring, also known as an oxirane ring, is fused to an aromatic ring system. These compounds are formed by the epoxidation of one of the double bonds within an arene. Arene epoxides are notable as metabolic intermediates in the biological oxidation of aromatic hydrocarbons, such as benzene being converted to benzene oxide.
