Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004702
A class of hydrocarbons consisting of a five-membered ring with one exocyclic double bond, formally derived from cyclopentadiene by substitution at one of the methylene carbons. These molecules are isomers of benzene and are known for their characteristic color, which arises from a relatively small HOMO-LUMO gap. The parent compound is methylidenecyclopenta-1,3-diene, with the chemical formula C6H6.
