Transferases
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012213
A class of enzymes that catalyze the transfer of a specific functional group, such as a methyl or glycosyl group, from one molecule (the donor) to another (the acceptor). These enzymes facilitate many biochemical pathways, including the synthesis of macromolecules and the modification of proteins. The Enzyme Commission (EC) number for transferases is EC 2, which is the second of seven main enzyme divisions.
