Oxidoreductases
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008398
A class of enzymes that catalyze oxidation-reduction reactions, facilitating the movement of electrons from a donor molecule (the reductant) to an acceptor molecule (the oxidant). These enzymes are involved in metabolic pathways like cellular respiration and photosynthesis. Oxidoreductases are systematically classified as EC 1 in the Enzyme Commission numbering system, with subclasses based on the specific donor and acceptor groups involved in the reaction.
