Oxidized species

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008397

A chemical entity that has lost one or more electrons in an oxidation-reduction reaction, resulting in an increase in its oxidation state. This process occurs when the species reacts with an oxidizing agent. For example, when methane (CH4) is oxidized in the atmosphere, it forms species like formaldehyde (CH2O) and eventually carbon dioxide (CO2), both of which are oxidized species relative to methane.
