Catalytic methanation

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001728

The synthesis of methane and water from a mixture of carbon monoxide and hydrogen, or carbon dioxide and hydrogen, over a catalyst. This exothermic reaction, known as the Sabatier process, is a key step in producing synthetic natural gas from syngas derived from coal or biomass. Nickel-based catalysts are frequently employed for this conversion due to their high activity and selectivity for methane formation.
