Glycosyltransferase
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004956
An enzyme that catalyzes the formation of glycosidic bonds by transferring a monosaccharide unit from an activated nucleotide sugar donor to an acceptor molecule. These enzymes are central to the biosynthesis of glycans on proteins and lipids, determining the specific sugar linkages and overall structure of complex carbohydrates. Glycosyltransferases are highly specific for both the sugar donor and the acceptor molecule.
