Leader sequence
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006501
A non-coding region of messenger RNA (mRNA) located at the 5' end, upstream of the start codon, that is transcribed but not translated into protein. This sequence contains regulatory elements that influence the initiation of translation and the stability of the mRNA molecule. In prokaryotes, it often includes the Shine-Dalgarno sequence.
