Proteins

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009592

Macromolecules composed of polypeptide chains, which are linear polymers of amino acids linked by peptide bonds. The specific sequence of amino acids dictates the protein's three-dimensional folded structure, which in turn determines its biological function. Proteins are distinguished from smaller polypeptides by their size, with a common but arbitrary threshold being a molecular weight of approximately 10,000 daltons.
