Protein-protein interaction
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009591
The specific physical contact between two or more protein molecules, driven by electrostatic forces, hydrogen bonds, and hydrophobic effects. These associations can be stable, forming permanent multi-protein complexes, or transient, mediating steps in signaling pathways and metabolic processes. Analytical methods like the yeast two-hybrid system and affinity purification coupled with mass spectrometry are used for their detection and characterization.
