Protein purification
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009583
A series of processes intended to isolate a single type of protein from a complex mixture, such as cells, tissues, or body fluids. The methods exploit differences in protein properties like size, charge, and binding affinity, using techniques including chromatography and electrophoresis. A successful purification protocol results in an enrichment of the target protein, with purity often assessed by SDS-PAGE, where a single band indicates high homogeneity.
