Microproteinaemia
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013291
The chronic presence of low-molecular-weight proteins, notably alpha-1 microglobulin and beta-2 microglobulin, in the blood, taken as a sign of proximal tubular kidney damage. These small proteins pass the glomerular filter and are normally reabsorbed by proximal tubule cells. Beta-2 microglobulin has a molecular mass of about 11.8 kDa, small enough to filter freely through the glomerulus.
